Healthy Choices is a program that helps women to make better choices in their lives in the areas of parenting, nutrition and life management. Healthy Choices meets on Tuesdays during the school year at the Damascus United Methodist Church. Healthy Choices provides a pre-school children’s program and a healthy lunch for all participants. We are working to provide the Healthy Choices participants with mentoring, education opportunities and other resources needed to thrive. Our hope is to teach Biblical principles that will help break the cycle of poverty, provide encouragement, knowledge and goals for a better life.  This is a FREE class.

Healthy Choices will resume on September 21st, 2010.

Friends in Action

If you were given a very unique opportunity to share your blessings with someone else, would you do it? If you were told that Friends in Action has families in the Damascus –Clarksburg area waiting for services and support, would you help us?

Friends in Action is a program of Interfaith Works (which is being sponsored by Faith Connections in our community) that has trained and supported teams of mentors in Montgomery County since 1986. Friends in Action links mentoring teams with families who want to emerge from poverty. Mentors offer support to overcome such challenges as managing a budget, undergoing a job search, or acquiring a GED. Families are accepted into the program based on their expressed desire to work towards economic and family stability.

Friends in Action needs your help. It takes no special skills to become a mentor, only a caring heart and the commitment of a few hours a month for at least one year. If you are interested in making a difference in a local family, please call Debbie Tomlinson,  301-512-7879 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
